Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association
Suffield Ambulance is licensed to operate as an intermediate service (EMT-I) by the State of
Connecticut. All SVAA members who serve on our ambulances are trained to one of the following levels:
- CPR-Drivers: Move patients, drive the ambulance and set
up and retrieve equipment.
- MRT: Medical Response Technicians provide fundamental
life support.
- EMT: Basic Emergency Medical Technicians provide general
life support for all patients and are trained in the use of automatic defibrillators.
- EMT-I: Intermediate Emergency Medical Technicians provides
intravenous fluid therapy, perform airway management and employ other advanced lifesaving techniques.
- EMT-P:
Paramedic. The Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association now operates at the
Paramedic level. Besides paid medics, we also have our first group of
volunteer medics. The association awards full scholarships to selected
applicants each year to attend paramedic school.
